Clearly the drug war has been lost – why must we continue to wage it? The fact guns are now being smuggled in mass quantities to Mexico for use in smuggling tons of drugs into the US should be all the reason we need to end the drug war. The status quo is not working!

We need to refocus on helping addicts, educating kids, and providing treatment to those that want it. Its time to stop filling our prisons, breaking up families, financing gangsters, shooting up our streets, building dangerous drug labs, and making drugs easily available to our kids.

And some people think legalization would be worse – I find that really hard to believe.

And even the Indios club’s own existence is threatened by the drug cartel forces that are scaring people into their homes to try and hide from their daily existence of a city blanketed in multiple daily murders. Even their own homes don’t provide them with much needed safety as you will see in this story. When are we going to stop the insanity and reverse our failed drug policy? This is getting to be too much to stomach, one would think even for the staunchest drug prohibitionist.

The most recent sign that the massive failure called the war on drugs has no plans of succeeding anytime soon was today’s media parade by police in California – showing off the nations largest ever crystal meth seizure.

Now some might say awesome – they got 600 pounds of meth of the street. Sure that’s a good thing but the reality of how futile the bust was is reflected clearly in the quoted police officer’s own comment.

Sheriff’s officials said “they had no illusions the huge bust would stem the flow of drugs from Mexico. These organizations are all over the place out there, folks,”

And that says it all.

After all these years, and all the billions of tax dollars spent, we are in the worst situation ever when it comes to the damage drugs are doing to our society. And the irony is, it isn’t the drugs doing it. It’s the negative side effects of drug prohibition that are causing gang violence, dangerous drug labs, child drug dealers, billionaire drug lords, corrupt police, enriched enemies over sea’s, and whored out drug addicts that get no treatment because of police get all the drug policy money and only crumbs being allocated to treatment and harm reduction.

And the list goes on folks.

How can we continue to claim that the current approach to drug policy is the best approach. It is clearly one of the worst ways of dealing with drug use in a society, ever.

For all the do-gooders out there that think taking control of the drug trade away from criminals through legalization and harm reduction will make it easier for kids to get access to drugs, think again.

Today a 3rd grader was caught giving away free heroin to classmates. He had over 60 flaps of H on him! This is what we get when we pretend to be in control of the drug trade through prohibitionist laws when in reality we’ve given control of selling drugs to scum bag drug dealers. Who get stinking rich to boot.

Prohibition makes it far easier for kids to get drugs than if we handled them like alcohol and prescription medicines because 99% of the people selling drugs today are willing to sell to kids in a heart beat. The criminals who control the illegal drug trade don’t care who they sell to, or who they enlist to sell their poison. This is no different than the days of alcohol prohibition when it became obvious that prohibition was making things worse than just letting people drink.

Hopefully we’re close to the same revelation. Our children deserve better than the status quo of outright prohibition.”

Kudos to Kash Heed for perfecting the melodramatic drug war photo op. Did you catch that moment 24 seconds in where he almost stares into the camera when saying “”must be destroyed”". All that was missing was sinister music right after he finished his sentence.

Anyway, you know where I’m going on this news story. Yep – we wouldn’t have illicit drug labs if our laws didn’t create an illicit black market for drugs. Atleast that’s the most obvious angle I would take on a story like this but I actually want to focus on a little statement made in that news piece.

Did you catch the part where they say the US has stricter laws regarding possession of precursor chemicals? They said that the drug labs moved to Canada from the US when the laws in the US got stricter. So what do you think will happen when Canada equalizes or goes even farther than the US with its precursor laws?

Logic would dictate that the drug labs would either stay put or maybe even move back to the US for a short period of time. Until they get even tougher laws. Then they’ll move back to Canada, until we get tougher laws too. Do you see the cycle? It ends in the removal of our freedoms and a police state. You can see this is true by studying the evolution and history drug prohibition. Under prohibition our society has become less free, less safe, and more overseen by our Government. Not exactly how our founding fathers envisioned our free new land now is it?

As difficult as it sounds to most people the best solution to our drug related problems is to legalize drugs to eliminate the black market. So much of the harm that we, and the media, so often refer to as drug caused problems are in fact drug “”prohibition”" caused problems.

The next time you see a story on the news about drugs and the drug trade ask yourself this: “”was this problem caused by the prohibition of drugs or by the use of drugs?”" 9 times out of 10 you’ll find that prohibition is the cause not the drug itself. And that other 10 percent of problems aren’t worth the Billions of dollars all of us have to spend each year in the name of the drug war. We could deal with that 10 percent much better under a non criminal (yes that means legalized) health care based drug policy. Our current policy of outright prohibition and scorn for drug users isn’t working and never will.
